Liner Notes
My grandmother sang many of these old songs to me as we drove across Texas and Louisiana visiting kinfolks in the 50's. We made those trips in an old Ford Falcon (pronounced fal-coon) with no radio or AC. We would get a block of ice from the ice house, put it in a galvanized tub in the floorboard on my side of the car and away we'd drive into the hot southern summers.
My goal in this recording was to reproduce the many fun times I've had sitting in the kitchens of friends and family singing old and new songs. Two of the original songs included here were inspired by the wonderful poetry of Brenda Black-White. Don't miss the chance to hear one of her readings or order her books from 2508 Washington, Commerce, Texas 75428.
The dulcimer is a "user-friendly" instrument for people who sing or for those who want to play an instrument solo for the pure enjoyment of it. It is a peaceful instrument and always reminds me of the prayer of St. Francis, "Lord, Make me and Instrument of Thy Peace." I hope you enjoy the music, Sing the harmonies or play along on dulcimer or other instruments. Thank you for your support.
